Stand Like a Dancer: A Practical Posture Workshop

Do you ever notice how professional dancers have amazing posture?  They move through space with grace and confidence, and so can you!  How can we achieve this posture? Can we adopt some of the exercises that dancers do to improve the way we stand and walk?   Learning how our bodies function and why we move in a certain way can help us to create a practical plan for ourselves to reinforce our good posture, alleviate back pain, and feel more confident in our bodies.  This workshop, part lecture and part demonstration, helps to improve your posture, alignment and overall well-being using techniques, simple props and exercises based in Pilates, biomechanical principles and functional fitness. Within a few weeks, you will be standing taller, stronger and with more confidence. (Please bring a mat, a water bottle, a pen, a dowel/broomstick, and a medium hard-cover book)

If you are a Person with Parkinson’s, are you interested in finding as many ways as possible to counter PD’s challenges? Through music, movement, props, athletic drills, dance, imagery and other physical strategies, you will learn a variety of concrete tools to improve mobility and balance and enhance quality of life. 

 As a Certified Dance for Parkinson’s Instructor for 13 years, Susanne has learned how to enhance people’s lives through movement.   With a playful and energetic attitude, Susanne’s classes help students to discover the possibilities and a creative approach to being in their bodies.  Students also learn the value of communal learning, as they develop a support network of encouraging and positive feedback.
